Women's Lacrosse Team Returns to Action with 16-3 Loss
Three different goal scorers for Monmouth on Saturday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/25/2023) — The Monmouth College women's lacrosse team returned to action on Saturday with a 16-3 home loss to Midland University. The Fighting Scots (0-1) took the field for the first time since April 2021 and had goals from three different players under first-year coach Jordan Tice.
Midland took a 1-0 lead just 27 seconds into the game and made it 2-0 with 11:43 to play in the first quarter. They added four more goals in the first quarter to lead 6-0.
Midland took a 7-0 lead before the Scots got on the board. Sophomore captain Noelle Faulk (Elmhurst, Illinois) scored the first goal of the game and season for Monmouth. Midland responded with two goals to lead 9-1. Junior Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa) scored with 1:33 to go in the half to cut Midland's lead to 9-2. The Warriors scored with 17 seconds left in the half to go on top 10-2.
Midland scored early in the third quarter and then got to a running clock as they took a 12-2 lead with 8:03 to play. Neither team scored the rest of the quarter and Midland added three goals in the fourth quarter to go up 15-2. Junior Lauren Lehmann (Peoria, Illinois) scored on an assist from senior captain Mac Holmes (Clive, Iowa) before Midland scored with 16 seconds left.
Monmouth is next in action on Saturday, March 4 at home against Concordia-Chicago with a noon start.
