Women's Soccer Drops MWC Opener on Saturday
MONMOUTH, Ill (09/29/2024) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team dropped the Midwest Conference opener against Lawrence University 4-0 on Saturday. The (2-6-2, 0-1) will play the next two games on the road before hosting Illinois College on Oct. 16.
Monmouth had a couple of early chances as Lawrence made saves against Allison Griffin (Geneseo, Illinois) and Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois) in the first 15 minutes. Beach, Nylea Cruz (Silvis, Illinois) and Kiersten Medinger (Silvis, Illinois) also had shots on goal saved as the game stayed scoreless through 25 minutes. Lawrence broke the tie in the 26th minute on a rebound goal and then scored again six minutes later for a 2-0 lead. The Vikings made it 3-0 before halftime.
Lawrence threatened early in the second half as Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) made a string of saves. The Vikings made it 4-0 in the 66th minute and neither team scored over the last 24 minutes.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois) played all 90 minutes and has played every minute this season ... Caster had 12 saves ... She moved into a tie with Amanda Havens for 7th on the Monmouth list for games played by a goalkeeper (33) and also went over 2000 career minutes played in goal ,,, Lawrence leads the all-time series 13-10-4 and have won the last two ... Monmouth used 20 players in the game ... Shots finished 33-12 in favor of Lawrence and shots on goal were 16-6,, ... The Scots play at Beloit next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. following the men's game ... The next home game is at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 16 against Illinois College.
