Women's Soccer Falls at Westminster on Wednesday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/26/2024) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team finished non-conference play with a 6-0 loss at Westminster on Wednesday. The short-handed Scots (2-5-2) start Midwest Conference play on Saturday at home against Lawrence.
The game was scoreless for the first 12 minutes. Westminster broke through in the 13th minute and 47 seconds later they took a 2-0 lead. The Blue Jays made it 3-0 with seven minutes left in the first half and scored again 70 seconds later for a 4-0 advantage.
Neither team scored for the first 24 minutes of the second half before the Blue Jays made it 5-0. With just over 10 minutes to play, the Blue Jays scored the final goal of the game.
Monmouth played Wednesday's game without three usual starters due to injury and overall were down five players.
"Injuries have not been our friend recently but that's no excuse for a lack of execution in key areas," said head coach Lucas Henderson. "The work rate is still there and we're getting healthy at the right time so focus has to shift to Saturday and the start of conference play."
