Women's Soccer Falls to IWU on Saturday
Monmouth, IL (09/21/2024) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team lost 8-3 at home to Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday in a game that was shortened by lightning, The Scots (2-4-2) finish non-conference play on Wednesday night at Westminster.
The Titans scored a long distance goal from the left wing in the third minute. The Scots tied the game seven minutes later as Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois) finished off a breakaway in a 1-on-1 situation for her sixth goal of the season. IWU scored five times in the next 15 minutes to lead 6-1. Nylea Cruz (Silvis, Illinois) got on the board in the 40th minute with an unassisted goal. Mariah Hobson (Princeton, Illinois) sent the Scots into halftime down 6-3 as she scored from distance with 24 seconds left in the half.
The Titans scored five minutes into the second half and made it 8-3 in the 55th minute. The game went into a lightning delay with 17:40 to play and the rain quickly followed. Since the game had completed 70 minutes, it was considered a final.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois), Taylor Freeman (Washington, Illinois), Jackie Contreras (Peoria, Illinois) and Beach played all 73 minutes ... Mylee Hansen (Pekin, Illinois) started the game and played 39 minutes ... In the afternoon she made her first appearance for the Monmouth football team and became the first female to ever score a point in Scots history when she kicked an extra point in the 52-6 win over Lawrence ... Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) made seven saves while Bronte De Zwart (Ridleyton, Australia) made one ... Beach moved into a tie for 16th on the career scoring list with 15 goals ...
