Women's Soccer Falls to Webster 2-0 Saturday

by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/03/2022) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team dropped the home opener 2-0 to Webster University on Saturday. The Scots are now 1-1 on the season with two road games next week.

The game was scoreless for the first 33 minutes before Abbey Poe scored for the Gorlocks. Webster kept the pressure on the Scots all half with 13 shots, four on goal.

Poe doubled the Gorlocks lead with a long distance shot after a scramble in the box. That goal came with 23 minutes to play. Monmouth's Lea Selquist (Peru, Illinois) made nine saves. Webster out-shot Monmouth 21-1 with 11 shots on goal. Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois) took the Scots only goal and it was blocked by a defender.

"I thought we had a really encouraging defensive showing against a strong and deep team," said coach Lucas Henderson. "I'm immensely proud of how hard they worked but now its about putting the attacking pieces together."

The Scots head to Dubuque on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff before playing at Augustana on Sunday afternoon. The next home game is Wednesday, Sept. 14 against Central College.
