Women's Soccer Rallies to Draw Lawrence

Doebert Scores Game-Tying Goal on Senior Day

by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/30/2022) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team rallied for a 2-2 draw against Lawrence University in Saturday's season finale. The result denied the Vikings a trip to the MWC Conference Tournament in a role reversal of last season with the Vikings kept Monmouth from the tourney on the last day of the season.

Lawrence took a 2-0 lead at Peacock Park with a goal in the 12th minute and another in the 37th. They out shot the Scots 9-2 in the first half as Monmouth goalkeeper Bronte De Zwart (Adelaide, Australia) made four saves.

Just over seven minutes into the second half, the Scots got on the board. Anna Davison (Bettendorf, Iowa) hit a shot from distance that caromed off the crossbar. Natalya Main (Peoria,. Illinois) headed the rebound past the Vikings keeper for her first career goal. Not even 90 seconds later the Scots won a free kick as Main was fouled on the far left side of the field, a few yards outside the box. Senior Kaylee Doebert (Mount Horeb, Wisconsin) blasted the free kick over the head of the keeper and into the top-right corner to tie the game.

"I'm immensely proud of this team," said coach Lucas Henderson. "To have a two-goal comeback against a team with everything to play for is special."

Neither team scored over the final 35:55 of the game and Lawrence ended with 10 players after Jessica Smith drew a second yellow card with 2:43 to play. Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) played in the goal for Monmouth in the second half. She made seven saves as Lawrence outshot the Scots 12-5 in the half. The Scots finished with five shots on goal, two from Main, two from Doebertand one from Lizzy Gould (Cambrdige, Wisconsin).

Monmouth finishes the season at 3-10-3, 0-5-3 in conference play. Doebert and Sam Koppers (Tinley Park, Illinois) were honored pregame as the team's two seniors.

"Our seniors were great and I'm particularly proud of Kaylee and Sam," said Henderson. "They put in hard work both in this game and all season long."
