by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/30/2021) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team played a tough 105-minute battle with Lawrence that ended in a heartbreaking double overtime loss for the Scots. Saturday's 1-0 loss, coupled with a 1-0 Beloit win over Cornell, eliminates the Scots from playoff contention.

The Scots had a strong first half, having seven total shots, five of which were on net. Sophomore Madison Walker (Vernon Hills, Illinois) and senior Payton Gosell (Antioch, Illinois) had two shots each, both of Gosell's were on goal. Senior Jordyn Gosell (Antioch, Illinois), senior Erica Bossard (Pella, Iowa), and sophomore Kimberly Lopez (Kenosha, Wisconsin) were also able to get a shot on goal.

Freshman goaltender Lea Selquist (Peru, Illinois) stopped all the shots she faced in regular time and finished with four saves. The Scots did not have a shot in the overtime periods. The Scots complete the season with a 5-11-1 overall record and finish 4-3-1 in-conference.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Walker finished the season leading the team in goals, shots on goal, and points Selquist had four saves, putting her at 33...The Scots would have made the top four MWC Championships with a win or a draw on Saturday....Instead both Lawrence and Beloit join Knox and Lake Forest in the tournament.
