Women's Tennis Drops MWC Opener at Lake Forest

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/18/2021) — The Monmouth College women's tennis team traveled north this weekend for the Midwest Conference opener. The morning match at Lake Forest College resulted in a 9-0 loss for the Scots (0-4, 0-1).

Lake Forest made it to the MWC Championship match last spring before falling to Grinnell. They started Saturday's match by taking all three doubles matches. At No. 1 Isabel Hammond (Germantown Hills, Illinois) and Emily Henson (Geneseo, Illinois) won two games while the other two doubles teams lost 8-0.

In singles Emily Laughlin (Milan, Illinois) fell 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot. Lake Forest won the next two matches 6-0, 6-0 and Julia Mheidze (Springfield, Illinois) won a game in the second set for the Scots at No. 4. Ditza Montesinos (Villa Park, Illinois) and Jennifer Shimmin (Monmouth, Illinois) both won a game in the first set at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively.

The Scots will next be in action on Saturday, Sept. 25 with two conference matches in Wisconsin. They play at Ripon at 9 a.m. and at Lawrence at 3 p.m.
