NCAA Berth Nets Monmouth Women's Soccer Coach of the Year and Four All-Conference Selections
Monmouth, IL (11/15/2019) — In a season that saw a number of firsts, the Monmouth College women's soccer team has placed four members on the All-Midwest Conference team - one the Offensive Player of the Year - and earned coach Nick Rizzo his second MWC Coach of the Year honor.
Rizzo guided the Scots to a program-record 14 wins and their first MWC Tournament title and NCAA berth. Rizzo has compiled a 41-29-5 record in four seasons. Kara-Jade Gordon (Nashville, Tenn./University School) earned her fourth straight all-league selection, Jacie Reis (La Porte, Texas/La Porte) and Devin Cross (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland) their second, and Jordyn Gosell (Antioch, Ill./Grayslake Central) her first for the Fighting Scots.
The Offensive Player of the Year, Gordon was named to the first team and netted 15 goals, 35 points and six game-winning goals - all team highs - in her final season. A senior psychology major, she is the daughter of Daniel and Olive Gordon.
Reis was named to the first team and was second on the Scots with 12 goals, 29 points and three game-winning goals. A senior biology major, she is the daughter of Timmothy and Tonya Taylor, and Jerry Taylor.
Cross earned a first team selection and was third for Monmouth with seven goals and 17 points. A junior biochemistry major, she is the daughter of Michelle Cross.
Named to the second team, Gosell led the Scots with seven assists while netting three goals and 13 points. A sophomore exercise science major, she is the daughter of Kristin Formell and Eric Gosell.
The Scots make their NCAA Tournament debut Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul, Minn., where they will face the University of St. Thomas.
