Personett Named AFCA All-American
Senior DE becomes first Monmouth player to repeat on AFCA squad
MONMOUTH, Ill. (12/13/2022) — The individual accolades continue to pour in for Monmouth College football senior Korbyn Personett (Pittsfield, Illinois). A week after being named All-Region First Team by D3football.com, Personett was named Second Team All-American by the America Football Coaches Association (AFCA) on Tuesday. Personett is one of just five players to repeat from the 2021 AFCA All-American Team and the first Monmouth player to earn a second AFCA selection since the organization began its Division III team in 1996.
In 11 games this season, Personett recorded 52 tackles to go with 20 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. He forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, racked up six quarterback hurries and broke up two passes. He ranked in the top 20 in the nation for all Division III players in solo sacks (9), solo TFL (19) and total TFL (20). The 2022 Midwest Conference Defensive Line MVP led the MWC in solo TFL, yards lost on TFL (123), yards lost on sacks (90) and finished second in total sacks.
Personett finished his career at Monmouth with 26.5 sacks, 49 TFL and 113 tackles in 30 games. His 26.5 sacks rank fourth all-time and he set the single-season record in 2021 with 16 sacks. Personett's 49 TFL also rank third all-time and he leaves the program with the single-season TFL record (26, in 2021) and the fourth-best mark with 20 this season. His three career forced fumbles are tied for sixth on the Monmouth career list.
A two-time Midwest Conference Defensive Line MVP and First-Team selection, Personett is also a two-time D3football.com All-Region V selection and a two-time AFCA All-American. Last year he was a first-team AP All-American and that team has not yet been announced for 2022. In his 30 games with the Scots, Monmouth posted a 23-7 record, 19-2 in MWC play with two MWC Championships, a NCAA Playoffs appearance and a Lakefront Bowl win.
