Personett Named First Team AFCA All-American
Scots DE led nation in sacks and TFL
MONMOUTH, Ill. (12/14/2021) — Monmouth College football senior Korbyn Personett (Pittsfield, Illinois) was named to the American Football Coaches Association Division III All-America First Team on Tuesday.
Personett led all Division III players in the nation with 16 sacks and 26 tackles for loss this season. He set the Scots single-season sacks record against Knox on Nov. 13 and finished the season with 52 tackles, six QB hurries, two forced fumbles and four pass break -ups.
Personett was named Midwest Conference First Team and MWC Defensive Line Most Valuable Player last month. He was also named Second Team All-Region by D3footbal.com last week, representing Region 5.
Personett is the seventh Monmouth player honored by AFCA and the fifth to earn a First Team selection. Offensive tackle Joe Krall was AFCA First Team in 2019 while linebacker Matt Barnes earned the honor in 2016. The Scots also had Second Team selections in 2017 (DB Micam Smith) and 2016 (QB Tanner Matlick) under coach Braun. Quarterback Alex Tanney was AFCA First Team in 2011 while DE Anthony Goranson was First Team in 2009.
The AFCA's Division III All-America Selection Committee is made up of head coaches representing each conference from each of the AFCA's seven districts, one of whom serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who serves as the chairman of the selection committee. The coaches in each district are responsible for ranking the top players in their respective districts prior to a conference call between the district chairmen and the committee chairman on which the team is chosen.
