Scots Drop Two Tennis Matches on Saturday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/17/2024) — The Monmouth College men's tennis team lost a pair of matches 9-0 on Saturday. The Scots traveled to the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Illinois where they fell to host Illinois Wesleyan and Principia College.
Sawyer Day (Kansas City, Missouri) and Spencer Corn (Cupertino, California) played at No. 1 doubles. They lost 8-1 to both opponents. Andrew Nichols (Janesville, Wisconsin) and Macaden Sepich (Mackinaw, Illinois) played at No. 2 doubles, falling 8-0 against IWU and 8-1 against Principia. The Scots do not have a No. 3 doubles team and forfeited those matches.
Day played at No. 1 singles, falling 6-1, 6-0 against IWU and 6-4, 6-0 against Principia, Nickols played at No. 2 singles against IWU with a 6-0, 6-0 loss and he lost against Principia at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Corn lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles against IWU and 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 against Principia. Sepich fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 against IWU and 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 against Principia. Nehemiah Declaw (Aurora, Colorado) lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles in both matches. The Scots do not have a No. 6 singles player and forfeited those matches.
Monmouth will not play again until they host Webster University on Friday, March 29.
