Two Area Residents Set to Make History at Monmouth College
Two area residents will be among the first graduates of Monmouth College's Global Public Health Triad.
MONMOUTH, Ill. -- (05/04/2018) — Two area residents will make history at Monmouth College when the national liberal arts college holds its 161st commencement on May 13. The two area residents will be among the first graduates of the College's innovative Global Public Health triad.The students are:
- Liz Hippen, a biopsychology major from Toulon, Ill.;
- and Sarah Mills, a biology and Spanish major from Peoria, Ill.
Monmouth's Global Public Health Triad -- a minor that integrates the disciplines of kinesiology, modern languages and psychology -- develops students' knowledge of a variety of approaches to understanding and improving health, from an individual level to an international level.
Global Public Health students participate in either an internship focused on health or a study-abroad program focused on health, both of which deepen their understanding of specific issues and also provide preparation for a career or graduate school.
Monmouth will award diplomas to more than 260 graduates at its 161st commencement, to be held at noon May 13 on the Wallace Hall Plaza. National Book Award finalist Min Jin Lee will deliver the commencement address.
Founded in 1853, Monmouth College is a nationally ranked liberal arts college of 1,100 students. Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the birthplace of the women's fraternity movement, the college offers 34 majors, 33 minors, 18 pre-professional programs, and two innovative Triads in Global Food Security and Global Public Health.
