Hursey, Hutson also win titles for Scots

by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (05/10/2025) — The Monmouth College Track and Field teams won four individual titles and the women's team is in first place after the first day of action at the Midwest Conference championships.

With wins in both the discus and hammer on Friday. Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) has eight career outdoor titles, 12 overall, and will go for number nine on Saturday in the shot put. Only three women in MC history have won more than nine titles and they were all sprinters.

Miranda Hursey (Hanna City, Illinois) won the pole vault for the second year in a row and Colton Hutson (Mount Pleasant, Iowa) won the javelin for the men.

WOMEN

The women are in first place with 67 points while Ripon is in second with 39.

Boley won her signature event, discus, for the fourth straight year. The accomplishment ties the Monmouth record for wins in any event. Boley is the sixth MC woman to win the same event four times and the first since Shannon Turczyn won the 100m hurdles 2006-09. On Friday she threw 45.45m and won the event by almost seven meters. Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) was third at 38.62m. Overall the Scots have won 16 discus titles, including five in a row.

Boley also repeated her 2024 title in the hammer throw. She threw 51.86m to beat teammate Jillian Toth (El Paso, Illinois) at 51.63m. This is the fifth year in a row a Monmouth woman has won the hammer throw at the Outdoor MWC Championships and the 14th time overall. Braun was third at 45.15m and Alayna Earle (Clinton, Illinois) finished fifth at 43.38m.

Hursey defended her pole vault title from 2024 with a win as she cleared 3.35m and won the event on a tiebreaker of fewest misses. Hursey also won the indoor pole vault title and Friday's win is Monmouth's 11th outdoor pole vault win. Delaney Rexroat (Monmouth, Illinois) finished fourth with a PR of 3.10m and Megan Dailey (Pendleton, Indiana) scored two points in seventh place at 2.20m.

Maddie Rusk (Annawan, Illinois) took third in the long jump with a new outdoor PR of 5.39m

Makaiha Moore-Bell (Knoxville, Illinois) qualified first in the 100m race with a PR of 12.28, the 7th best time in MC history. Rusk will also be in Saturday's final and both qualified in the 200m race.

Natalie Gonzalez (Galesburg, Illinois) qualified in both the 100m hurdles and the 400m hurdles while Tatum Points (Metamora, Illinois) qualified in the 100m hurdles.

MEN

The men are in second place with 45 points, four behind Ripon and three ahead of Cornell.

Hutson won the javelin with a PR on his last throw of the day. Hutson, a senior, threw 52.11m to win by two meters. The win is the first for Monmouth since Clayton Schulenberg in 2021 and the 22nd all-time. Luke Reavis (Colorado SPrings, Colorado) took fourth with a PR of 45.77m and Gunnar Bryant (Curryville, Missouri) was sixth at 43.89m.

Matthew Bright (Macomb, Illinois) took second in the pole vault at 3.85m while Lane Grice (East Galesburg, Illinois) took fifth at 3.25m to pick up four points.

Bryant took fifth with a PR of 14.14m in the shot put. He finished just ahead of Shane Anderson (Lisle, Illinois) at 14.12m.

Tashawn Ruffin (Bloomington, Illinois) picked up two points with a PR of 6.42m to finish seventh in the long jump. Johnny York (Elmwood, Illinois) also scored a point with an eighth place finish on a PR jump of 6.57m.

Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) took fourth in the 1500m in 3:58.16, a PR and the 5th-best time in Monmouth history. Newton took more than four second off his season best to go under four minutes for the first time.

Adrian Outlaw (Galesburg, Illinois) and Da'Von Patterson (Ponte Vedra, Florida) qualified for the 400m finals. Janius Taylor (Lakeland, Florida) qualified for the 100m and 200m finals while Patterson also qualified for the 200. Logan Morse (Yates City, Illinois) qualified for the 400m hurdles finals.
