College's annual 'Christmas at Monmouth' concert set for Dec. 6 in Dahl Chapel
Monmouth, Ill. (12/02/2025) — Dreaming of a white Christmas? All the snow from the past few days has checked one of those boxes, and Monmouth College will provide the vibes for the second part of the equation when six musical ensembles join forces to present the school's annual "Christmas at Monmouth" concert on Saturday, Dec. 6.
The 7:30 p.m. concert in the Kasch Performance Hall of Dahl Chapel and Auditorium is open to the public, with a $5 suggested donation. Performing will be the Chorale, Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Civic Orchestra.
There will be a mix of traditional, familiar carols and less traditional selections. Some familiar tunes featured will be "Carol of the Bells," sung by the Concert Choir; "Sleigh Ride," played by the Civic Orchestra; and "Let There Be Peace on Earth," played by the Wind Ensemble. The Chamber Choir will also sing vocal jazz arrangements of two familiar carols, "We Three Kings" and "Deck the Halls," and a jazz combo will perform "What Child is This" in the style of music from A Charlie Brown Christmas.
"Chorale will sing a beautiful, dark and haunting arrangement of 'O Come, Emmanuel' with cello and piano," said the group's director, Monmouth music professor Tim Pahel. "Some non-traditional pieces include the rousing 'Hope' by Zachary Moore, sung by Chorale and including percussion."
All the singers and the Wind Ensemble will come together at the end of the event for a "beautiful" song by Dan Forrest, "See Amid the Winter's Snow."
