Monmouth Women to Face No. 5 Wartburg in NCAA First Round Game

Making only its second trip in program history to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament, Monmouth College (21-6) will meet No. 5 Wartburg College (24-3) on the Knights' home court in Waverly, Iowa, on Friday at 8 p.m.
Wheaton College (20-7) and 11th-ranked Whitman College (24-3) will tip off the evening at 5:30 p.m.
Monmouth will face a ranked team for the second time this season after playing ninth-ranked Transylvania University over winter break in California. The Fighting Scots, with a program-record 21 wins, are looking for their first win over Wartburg in three tries. The teams last met during the 2013-14 season.
In the win-or-go-home format, the winner of the Monmouth-Wartburg contest will meet the Wheaton-Whitman winner Saturday night at 7 p.m., also in Levick Arena on the Wartburg campus.
Monmouth, which earned its first NCAA berth in 2012, qualified for this year's postseason trip by claiming the Midwest Conference's automatic berth with a 74-69 win over Ripon in the league tournament championship game. The Scots sport the nation's No. 3 ranking in free throw percentage (77.7) and they're fifth in 3-point accuracy (36.9)
Tickets are only available at the door and gates will open for spectators at the Levick Arena 90 minutes prior to the start of the first game. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for senior citizens, students and youth. All tickets are single-day admission.
