Records Fall for Scots' Swimmers at Season's Largest Meet
Monmouth, IL (12/08/2019) — Swimming in their largest meet of the season with their fewest entries, the Monmouth College team posted one record and numerous personal-best and honor roll swims at the two-day Grinnell Pioneer Classic.
Facing a field larger than they'll see in February at the Midwest Conference Championships, the Fighting Scots swam half their team due to final exams last weekend. Monmouth's 14 swimmers posted seven top 10 swims at the Grinnell pool.
Freshman Joseph Addison made the biggest splash, breaking the Scots' 400-yard individual medley relay record in 4:18.76, placing him third, just four seconds off the winning time. Addison broke the Monmouth mark which had stood for nearly 10 years. His other honor roll swims which were also lifetime bests included the 200 butterfly where he touched in 2:01.09 to place fourth and the 100 IM where he clocked a 56.66 to place 12th. He added a PR in the 200 breaststroke, clocking a 1:02.5 to place 11th. While not a record-book time, Addison swam a 2:02.10 to place sixth in the 200 IM.
Kyle Jones posted one top eight finish and recorded PRs in a pair of other swims. His 1:02.23 in the 200 breaststroke landed him eighth. Jones posted his lifetime-bests in the 200 breaststroke, clocking an 11th-place time of 2:20.14 and the 100 IM where his 59.59 placed him 30th.
Other top 10 individual men's swims came from Tyler Davis in the 500 freestyle (5:02.45, 9th) and Rik Doornenbal in the 1650 free (17:52.51, 10th). Davis, Doornenbal and Addison teamed with Andrew Lee to clocked a ninth-place 400 free relay time of 3:24.33.
On the women's side, Miranda Pasky posted one honor roll time among her three, top 13 finishes. Pasky touched in a Monmouth honor roll time of 1:07.43 to place 13th in the 100 IM. She was 11th in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.44) and 12th in the 200 breaststroke (2:43.23).
The Scots are off until Jan. 18 when they host Knox for their final home meet, a week after they return from the annual Florida training trip.
