Softball Drops Pair at Coe on Saturday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/28/2026) — The Monmouth College softball team lost twice at Coe on Saturday with an 8-0 loss in five innings and a 7-1 setback. The Fighting Scots (3-15) travel to Eureka on Tuesday to start a six game week.

GAME ONE

The game was scoreless in the bottom of the second when Coe got on the board against Alyssa Hefflefinger (Olin, Iowa). A single and homer got the Kohawks on the board before a single, double and walk loaded the bases with no outs. A groundout made it 3-0 and a single added two more for a 5-run frame.

Coe added two more in the fourth inning against reliever Addie Greene (Rushville, Illinois).A walk, single and double steal put two in scoring position and another single made it 7-0. A walk, error and single in the fifth inning ended the game at 8-0.

Hefflefinger (1-5) took the loss as she allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks over two innings. Greene allowed three runs in two innings of work and Savannah Powers (Volo, Illinois) had Monmouth's lone hit with a first inning single.

GAME TWO

Powers had a hit in the first inning of game two as well but she was left at first. The Kohawks grabbed an early lead against Lydia Overcash (Farmington, Illinois) with a single, stolen base and two more singles.

Mackenzie Gerard (Jacksonville, Illinois).singled to start the second but after a sacrifice bunt, the Scots left a runner in scoring position. Karliegh Ashby (Monmouth, Illinois) led off the third with a single and was bunted to second but again left in scoring position.

An error, single and double in the fourth gave Coe a 3-0 lead. Brooklyn Millhollin (Peoria, Illinois) walked to start the fifth and moved to second on another sac bunt. Ashby singled and stole second to put two in scoring position. Alexis Hardy (Rushville, Illinois) brought home Monmouth's first run of the day with a single up the middle but a caught stealing and line out ended the threat.

Coe responded immediately with a leadoff walk and homer in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Elizabeth Durfee (Arlington, Washington) took over in the circle for the sixth. A triple and single gave Coe a 6-1 lead and another hit after a stolen base added a run.

Millhollin led off the seventh with a double and Ashby reached on an error. Powers walked to load the bases but the Scots weren't able to add another run as the game ended on a ground out.

Overcash (1-4) took the loss as she allowed four earned runs on six hits over five innings. Durfee allowed two runs on three hits in one inning while striking out one.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Powers had a hit in both games ... Ashby had two hits in game two, her eighth multi-hit game of the season ... Ashby stole her 25th base, moving into a tie with Nicole Auclair for fifth on the Scots career list ... Millhollin had a double and the other eight Monmouth hits on the day were singles ... Millhollin and Powers had Monmouth's two walks on the day ... Kerigan Lewis (Cambridge, Illinois) made her first career start and had her first career plate appearance in game twoCoe leads the all-time series 34-8 with nine straight wins ... The Scots play a double header at Eureka on Tuesday ... The next home game is the MWC opener against Lake Forest on Friday at 1 p.m..
