Softball Drops Pair at Greenville on Saturday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/29/2025) — The Monmouth College softball team lost a pair of games at Greenville on Saturday. The Panthers outlasted the Scots 9-8 in extra innings in the opener before winning game two 16-0 in five innings.
Brooklyn Millhollin (Peoria, Illinois) led off the second inning with a walk and Kendall Lewis (Cambridge, Illinois) singled with one out. Liz Waymire (Havana, Illinois) doubled to score both runners and give the Scots a 2-0 lead.
Savannah Powers (Volo, Illinois) reached on an error with one out in the third and Shelby Covey (Peoria, Illinois) walked. Mackenzie Gerard (Jacksonville, Illinois) gave the Scots a 3-0 lead with a single before Covey was thrown out at the plate on a flyout double play.
The Panthers got a run against Monmouth starter Lizzie Durfee (Arlington, Washington) in the bottom of the third with two errors.
Covey led off the fifth with a walk and Gerard launched a 2-run homer for a 5-1 Monmouth lead. The Panthers scored six runs in the bottom of the inning with five off Durfee and one against reliever Kayleigh Cobb (Pawnee, Illinois).
Millhollin singled with two outs in the seventh and Gerard followed with a single to put the tying run on base. Kendall Lewis (Cambridge, Illinois) singled home Millhollin and Gerard advanced to third. A wild pitch scored Gerard to tie the game as Waymire walked but the Scots left two on base.
Alexis Hardy (Rushville, Illinois) started the eighth inning as the courtesy runner on second base and she moved to third on a groundout. A wild pitch gave the Scots an 8-7 lead but the Panthers scored twice in the bottom of the inning to win 9-8 on a walk-off single.
GAME TWO
The Panthers scored in the first inning against Addie Greene (Rushville, Illinois) with a single, two stolen bases and a sacrifice fly.
Covey and Lewis had hits in the first two innings but were left on base. Greenville scored three in the second and two in the third to lead 6-0. McKealey Klokkenga (Delavan, Illinois) got out of the third inning after taking over for Greene.
The Panthers scored 10 runs in the fourth inning on six hits, five walks and two errors. Monmouth went in order in the fifth inning, ending the game.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Gerard hit her first collegiate home run and the second overall on the season for the Scots ... She had three hits in game one ... Lewis and Millhollin both had two hits in game one ... Waymire delivered her first collegiate RBI and first hit of the season on her birthday ... Powers was hitless in the opener, ending a 5-game hit streak ... Lewis had hits in both games ... Game one was Monmouth's first extra-inning game of the season ... Greenville swept the Scots last season and they lead the all-time series 7-4 ... The Scots return home for a 1 p.m. DH next Saturday against Eureka ... Saturday is Senior Day for Lewis, Lantz, Grace Wyman (Pekin, Illinois) and Abigail Winstead (Morton, Illinois).
