MONMOUTH, Ill. (11/18/2021) — The Monmouth College women's basketball team put four players in double-figures and knocked off the visiting Eureka Red Devils 73-43 Wednesday night. All 10 players scored for the Fighting Scots who improved to 2-1 on the season.

The game started with a suffocating Monmouth defense. They held the Red Devils scoreless over the first six minutes of the game. By the time Eureka got on the score sheet they had turned the ball over five times and the Fighting Scots led 8-0.

The teams traded buckets but also traded turnovers and fouls. At the end of the first quarter, Monmouth had a 16-8 lead on the scoreboard as the teams combined for 15 turnovers and nine fouls. Kaitlyn Osmulski (Peoria, Illinois) led the Scots with six points in the quarter and Monmouth shot 50 percent in the quarter.

The Scots started the second quarter with a 7-2 run as Jordan Kintigh (Goshen, Indiana) scored inside, Josie Morgan (Washington, Illinois) drilled a corner three and Kintigh scored again. Olivia Falls and Savanah Moore scored 20 of Eureka's first 26 points. Monmouth got layups from Warner and Mitchell to push their largest lead to 20 and the half ended with the Scots leading 45-26.

The Monmouth defense went back to work in the third quarter as they held Eureka to one field goal over the first five minutes. The Scots pushed the lead to 24 at 54-28 before the Red Devils made a basket with 4:40 to play in the quarter. Monmouth scored on their next three possessions with layups from Osmulski, Warner and Lily Harlan (Washington, Illinois) as the hosts went on top 60-30. Sophomore Biancha Luna (Monmouth, Illinois) swished a long 3-pointer to beat the buzzer at the end of the quarter for her first college points and a 63-33 Monmouth lead.

Freshman Delaney Scheidenhelm (New Berlin, Illinois) made her first college basket in the fourth quarter to give the Scots a 70-43 lead. Freshman Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) made a free throw in the final minute for her first college point and the Scots last point of the game.
